Hi! I’m Maria, and I compete in Rhythmic Gymnastics for Team Ontario. I started with track and then rhythmic gymnastics — my mom got me registered. I’ve now been part of Special Olympics for eight years.
Special Olympics has given me a safe space to be myself and a place where friends accept me for who I am and where I can have fun.
One of my proudest moments is anytime I go up to perform.
I work at Wendy’s as a crew member, and I also worked at a hideaway in the summer. I stay active by going to different events like fundraisers.
Being part of Team Ontario means I have the honour to represent Ontario, see old friends from around the province, meet new friends, and have fun.
My advice? Keep your head up and have fun.
