Kimana Mar

Hi! I’m Kimana, and I compete in Rhythmic Gymnastics for Team Ontario! I first got involved after meeting an athlete at a Special Olympics golf tournament. I found out more information, and my parents considered the opportunity for me to join.

Special Olympics gave me the ability to be an athlete in a sport I love. That impact has transferred into my academics, work experiences, and all areas of my personal life. It has helped me develop leadership and confidence. Special Olympics has been so supportive and encouraging, which motivates me to do my best.

One of my biggest achievements was going to my first World Games in Los Angeles in 2015. I’ve been to two other World Games as well, and I’m a 3-time World Champion. At the Berlin World Games, I also earned Canada’s first gold medal.

I’ve competed at Nationals in Vancouver and Antigonish, NS, and at World Games in LA, Abu Dhabi, and Berlin.

I stay active in my community through the Torch Run, Champion Breakfast, and Tim Hortons events.

Being part of Team Ontario means showing my love for the sport, meeting new people, and having so much fun.

My advice? Be brave, enjoy the Games, and enjoy your journey.
