Hi! I’m Chris, and I compete in Athletics for Team Ontario. I got involved through our City Councillor after volunteering as an election scrutineer — he asked why I wasn’t in Special Olympics… and a few sports later, here I am headed to Nationals!
Special Olympics has been amazing for me, especially after moving to Timmins four years ago — it helped me meet so many people in the community, from athletes to coaches and trainers, and honestly, without it I think things would have been pretty lonely.
One of my proudest moments was at Provincials, where I won two gold medals and a bronze across three athletics competitions — and coming home to Timmins with gold medals was such a powerful feeling (even making the front page of the local newspaper!).
Being part of Team Ontario and going to Medicine Hat feels like the next logical step toward an even bigger goal — and I’m going to do my best.
My advice? Practice, stay active, and do your best — all members are already winners!
